Please give $150 this holiday season and make a difference in the life of a family in grief.
Your year-end donation, no matter the amount, will help a child and their family to begin the grief journey through our support groups at our Center or in schools across the greater metro area. Because of COVID, our groups are meeting virtually and in person, masked and socially distanced. Your gift will directly impact a grieving child and aid in their healing process, no matter how they receive our services.
This year has been a time of unexpected loss due to death or divorce for thousands of Oklahomans, including families like Shannon and her three precious children.
Shannon’s husband, Chad, died suddenly at the age of 36 - just two weeks before she was to give birth to their third child, Levi, leaving her completely alone.
"Before we started coming to Calm Waters, I had no idea how to help my babies and I knew I didn’t have the tools or expertise to guide them on my own.”
Even in the midst of COVID, Shannon and her children have attended Calm Waters grief support groups and have found a community who understands. “My children feel safe and loved at Calm Waters, and they can’t wait to go back each night,” Shannon said. “The realization you’re not actually alone in this awful journey is a gift that helps you keep going."
“Just six months after we found Calm Waters, I was combing Lilly’s hair, when she looked at me in the mirror and said, 'I miss my dad. I wish he was here to comb my hair,' without a tear or a tantrum. It was then I knew she was learning to process her big feelings in simple and profound ways because of all the art, movement and play-pretend exercises she had gone through during her grief group. That was the first time I had hope that her father's death wouldn't absolutely ruin her.
You, too, can help children like Lilly and her brothers, Samuel and Levi, and parents like Shannon as they heal from an unimaginable loss. Will you please give $150 or more this holiday season and make a difference in the life of one family?
Calm Waters has seen an alarming increase of grief within our community since COVID entered our state, and we are receiving twice the number of calls for help as a result. It is our hope to raise $35,000 before December 31 so that we can continue helping as many children and families in our community as possible, but WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS A POSSIBILITY! Thank you for supporting Calm Waters, you truly make a difference.
